Nearly all luokanopettajat work for municipalities, with OAJ negotiating pay under KVTES. Monthly salary runs €3,200–4,000 depending on experience; summer holidays are factored into the annual salary rather than paid separately. The profession is highly regarded and competitive to enter, even though pay doesn't fully reflect the education level required. Job security is strong. Advancing to special education teacher or headteacher raises pay considerably.
